MIT AI & Education Summit 2025

84 Massachusetts Ave, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, 02139, Massachusetts, United States (view on Google Maps)

The MIT AI & Education Summit 2025 is the second annual gathering hosted by the MIT RAISE Initiative and the App Inventor Foundation to explore how artificial intelligence can transform education in equitable and responsible ways. Held in Cambridge, Massachusetts from July 16–18 2025, the summit convenes educators, researchers, policymakers, technologists and students for three days of keynotes, workshops, panels and hands‑on demonstrations.

The official event overview notes that the summit’s themes include AI literacy, AI‑powered tools for education, AI for the global good and personalised learning. Through talks from world experts in education technology, RAISE professional development workshops, a Youth Track and a Hack the Climate Challenge, the summit aims to excite participants about AI’s potential while emphasising responsible innovation.

On Day 1, the programme begins with welcome remarks and a keynote from Ronit Levavi Morad of Google Research, followed by Google Education’s Rodrigo Pimentel. A panel on AI for Creative Learning features Karen Brennan and Mitch Resnick of MIT alongside Harvard scholars, while concurrent afternoon sessions include professional development workshops, hackathon challenges, and App Inventor workshops offered in Portuguese and Spanish.

The day concludes with a global panel on building AI literacy using UNESCO’s AI competency frameworks, featuring speakers such as Shafika Isaacs of UNESCO, Kelly Shiohira of the Global Science of Learning Education Network, and educators from UiPath Foundation, Quest Alliance and MIT. Day 2 opens with a keynote by Salima Bah, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Innovation, and a showcase of the Global AI Hackathon.

Panels address news and education in the era of AI with editors from The Conversation, Boston Globe and WGBH and academic experts. Throughout the afternoon, attendees choose from workshops on curriculum design, hackathon presentations and demos.

The summit also offers tours of MIT’s Media Lab and the Ray and Maria Stata Center so participants can see cutting‑edge research in robotics, wearables and computer science first‑hand. Day 3 continues with hands‑on sessions, workshops and demos before closing with networking activities.

Only the plenary talks are livestreamed; all other activities require in‑person participation, reinforcing the summit’s community‑building ethos.Beyond the formal programme, the summit provides networking opportunities at breakfasts, lunches and a reception, fostering collaboration among educators, AI researchers and industry.

The Youth Track engages high‑school students through mentorship and hands‑on coding sessions, encouraging the next generation to consider AI careers. By hosting workshops in Portuguese and Spanish, the summit aims to broaden global participation and promote accessibility.

The organisers emphasise that ongoing dialogue, research and policy development are crucial to ensure AI benefits students and educators equitably and ethically. Building on the success of the first summit, which drew more than 350 participants, the 2025 edition seeks to foster partnerships that will shape the future of learning.

With its combination of inspirational talks, technical workshops, climate‑focused hackathons, youth programming and campus tours, the MIT AI & Education Summit 2025 offers a holistic look at how AI can empower teachers and learners while addressing ethical and social implications.
