CAIN 2026 is the fifth edition of the International Conference on AI Engineering – Software Engineering for AI, and it will be held 12–18 April 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Co-located with the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2026), CAIN brings together researchers and practitioners who build, deploy and maintain AI-enabled systems.
The conference addresses the unique challenges of engineering software for AI and machine-learning systems, recognising that traditional software engineering practices must evolve to account for data-centric development, continuous learning and probabilistic behaviour. The 2026 program explores topics ranging from requirements engineering and data management to architecture, continuous integration, quality attributes, collaboration and infrastructure for AI systems .
Attendees will encounter keynotes from leaders in academia and industry, paper presentations detailing new research, practical industry talks, and a doctoral symposium designed to mentor early‑career researchers. CAIN also features panel discussions and open forums that examine ethical and regulatory considerations, reproducibility, fairness and transparency in AI engineering.
Participants are encouraged to share case studies and lessons learned from deploying AI in domains such as healthcare, finance, robotics, and social media. With its location in Rio de Janeiro’s beachfront Barra da Tijuca neighbourhood, CAIN 2026 offers a vibrant setting for networking and collaboration.
The conference venue, the Windsor Barra Hotel, provides extensive convention facilities, making it ideal for multi-track sessions and community gatherings. Beyond the formal program, CAIN fosters cross-pollination between software engineering and AI by organising informal meetups and mentoring sessions.
The goal is to equip engineers with best practices for building responsible, maintainable and scalable AI systems, while deepening collaboration between academia and industry. As AI continues to permeate critical infrastructure and consumer products, CAIN 2026 serves as a platform to tackle the evolving technical, ethical and organisational issues in AI engineering, ensuring that future systems are reliable, transparent and aligned with human values.
